New (?) comment feature launched on YiGG

Using twitter for some time it took us months to realize the unique value of this small communication feature we launched on YiGG today: the ‘@username’-feature. From now on YiGGers get personal messages after being addressed with @username in a comment. A small feature, a big effect on communications: now, YiGGers know that they had ben addressed or mentioned in comments without rechecking news entries with own comments or using our spy-called

New geotargeting feature mapNews on YiGG

Today we launched the new geotargeting feature mapNews on YiGG. Every news can be enriched with its location code, a city or even a combination of a city and a streetname, like ‘München, Lindwurmstrasse’. On the detail view of every news users can see where all those YiGGers interested in this news come from, by opening the google map via the ‘Karte’-link. Then there are two tabs ‘Aktuell’ and ‘Beliebt’. ‘Aktuell’ shows the latest

Web 2.0 at its finest: User Generated Diploma Thesis on YiGG

YiGG user @kartmann uses YiGG to create a User Generated Diploma Thesis. He asks the community to vote on six different proposals or to suggest another one. Cool.

A Day at the Datacenter

Today we spent a few hours in our datacenter in Frankfurt. What does a datacenter loook like? In my younger years I imagined a datacenter a huge cool and clean area with the size of a soccer field. Today, or with the eyes of a 38 year-old, a datacenter more looks like an overheated room full of noise and narrow corridors, where some sloppy sysadmins left their remains of servers packaging. Our datacenter is situated in the heart
