Leo Laporte — Low Cost Broadcasting

8 employees, $2 million revenues, a low cost basis and high quality content broadcasted continuously – this is TWiT: a tech show on the Internet. Former radio anchor Leo Laporte serves tech pundits with audio and video content, as podcast or live. 6 cameras in the TWiT cottage are filming anything what Leo does: a chat channel with several hundred participants is showing him what people think of his show. Here we could have a new definition

Leo Laporte — Which app should be invented?

Journalist and netcaster Leo Laporte seems to be the first person having founded a profitable podcasting business. Based in Petaluma, 60 miles north of San Francisco, Leo is operating a tech focused audio and video broadcasting network from his three-storey TWiT cottage. Mainly being his own host, Leo has created a viable business model with revenues of more than $2 million – after commissions.

News Curation in the Social Media Newsroom on YiGG

Inspired by Robert’s blogpost on news curation we’ve started this experiment. With YiGG we’ve been providing a Social News Platform since 2006, where news-addicted users have been reading, adding, commenting on and recommending news. Some of Robert’s ideas we’ve implemented already, others we haven’t yet. As always, the easiest thing for us would be to develop this “curation thing” step-by-step — following the seven ‘needs’ he described in his post. For us management

Finding Relevant News

Many of us complain about information overkill these days. Others — one of them is me — reply with: There’s no information overload, there’s just selection failure. Anyway — those of us in the news business are trying to find ways to ease the daily consumption of news for the user by ranking, weighing, recommending etc. At YiGG we have launched the project ‘worldspy’ with that goal exactly: we

Congrats to my friend, journalist and appstory.tv colleague Richard Gutjahr!

Video: Richard Gutjahr from appstory.tv and the very first iPad The original plan was to become a part of the hardcore Apple Fanboys queuing up in front of Apple’s 5th Avenue Flagship Store and do some authentic blogging right from the street. Then, Richard, who pre-ordered his own iPad a week before, was advanced by an Apple store manager and he was told that he would be the very first person getting his hands
